Motion announces LS800 8.9" (8.4" display) Tablet PC

Motion Computing has announced the LS800, a tablet pc with an 8.4" display, weighing in at 2.2lbs. Think of the LE1600, only smaller.

· 1.2 ghz ULV Sonoma processor, 512mb RAM (max)
· 8.4” display (
measuring just 8.94" x 6.69" x 0.87"), 2.2 lbs
· Smallest, lightest full-strength tablet PC available
· Enhanced security via fingerprint reader, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and software
· Latest generation of Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology
· Integrated Wi-Fi (a, b, g) , Bluetooth, IrDA and Ethernet
· Simplified power management
· Full range of innovative and performance-enhancing peripherals
· Currently taking orders, View Anywhere available in September

What is really cool about this tablet pc, besides the size, is the portable docking solution. It comes with a fold out stand so that the tablet pc can be propped up when you are sitting at a desk.

To get it that small, they did away with the PC card slot, but kept the SD card slot. It features 2 USB ports, a VGA port, docking connector, audio out, and 2 mics for their Speak Anywhere feature.

I am very pleased to see Motion hit this niche spot. I'd love a tablet this size (if I didn't already own the LE1600). The 512mb RAM limit is a bit limiting for me, but I think it will be a good fit for their target market: doctors, manufacturing, etc. I'd also like to see them find a solution for the pc card slot. A pc card slot offers so many options for the mobile professional. At least find a way to accomodate the highly mobile professional who will rely on EV-DO pc cards later this year. Maybe we will see embed EV-DO with a sim card.
